The Tobacco Free Initiative was established as a priority programme for WHO, the Initiative led the negotiations of the WHO FCTC. The aim of the Initiative is to reduce the global burden of disease and death caused by tobacco, thereby protecting present and future generations from the devastating health, social, environmental, and economic consequences of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke.
